Irena Bauman has joined the new Urban Design Review Panel in Sheffield. The panel will meet once a month to review forth coming projects in the city.

The shortlist of the six consortia bidding to revamp the Tower Works site in Leeds Holbeck Urban Village Development has been unveiled. London based Surface Architects is among the developer led teams hoping to get their hands on the abandoned 19th-century factory in Globe Road - famous for its unusual Italianate towers.

The reception of Marshalls Mill has been completed for Igloo Regeneration. It forms part of a 70,000 sqft Grade 2* listed mill built in 1815.

Little London's Sure Start Nursery has been successfully completed and the client is moving in. Little London has been shortlisted for a White Rose Award.

Irena Bauman has been invited to Chair the Regions Committee of CABE. She will also taken on special role as the Champion of the Yorkshire and Humberside Region.

Barnsley Media Centre has started on site with Bluestone. It is a design and build contract, due for completion in Summer 2007. 

Irena Bauman has been invited to chair a panel discussion exploring the issue of architecture and education in an event entitled ‘Buildings of Knowledge: Architecture for the Future of Learning’ at the Tate Britain on Wednesday 27th September. ‘The government is changing the landscape of education from children’s centres to new specialist academies. Along with reassessing policy, objectives and pedagogical methodologies, new buildings are at the top of the agenda.

Bauman Lyons are to publish a book of essays and projects in April 2007. The working title of the book is 'H HB B 2B-How to be a Happy Architect in the realm of disconnections': Architectural work is undertaken within a background of continuous rapid change which produces a system of disconnection. Architects have the capacity to think at variety of scales and resolve complex problems.We are capable of stitching the disconnections. Often we sell our abilities short.

Yorkshire Forward Renaissance Market Towns have commissioned a polemical study into the future of Market Towns. Irena Bauman is to lead this study and work with four other RMT panel members.

Irena Bauman will give a presentation at the 'Sound of the City' seminar organized by Ove Arup in Leeds on the 4th of May 2006. She will talk about the architectural, art, lighting and acoustic design proposed to turn Neville Street and Dark Neville Street from harsh and inhospitable to spaces that welcome pedestrians and provide a landmark gateway to the city.

Bauman Lyons will be presenting their proposals for the Dark Arches, Neville Street, disused Viaduct and Yorkshire Forward Pavilion on the 7th of April at the 'What kind of place?' event hosted by the Round Foundry Media Centre in Holbeck Urban Village. Other presentations at the event come form Allen Tod Architecture, Mouchel Parkman and CarlBro Group/Spawforth Associates.

Bauman Lyons are pleased that the East Street Arts projects has earned a Special Mention at last week's Leeds Achitecture Awards for 2005. It was said that: "Although this was determined as ineligible for an award, it is certainly worthy of a special mention. Here, a group of artists have combined courage and tenacity with limited resources to provide a home for their activities. The simply detailed outcome, although largely private, sends a signal to the community of its presence and restores an otherwise derelict building.
