Irena will be speaking about 'Whose place is it anyway' at the Todmorden Unitarian Church on Thursday 15th December at 6pm.

Irena will be giving a presentation talk on the subject of 'Austerity and Place' at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios in London on Wednesday 23rd November 6:30pm - 8:30pm. The evening promises to be a lively event with presentations and debate on the importance of public space in our public life.

Bauman Lyons Architects led a tour of Tower Works buildings and site on Friday 14.10.11, following a Topping-Out Ceremony as the last piece of bronze roof covering was installed jointly by Naz Parkar (Homes & Communities Agency), Irena Bauman, Julie Kenny (Yorkshire Forward), Councillor Richard Lewis (Leeds City Council) and Roger Quarmby (Quarmby Construction). Phase 1A will open in the New Year as lettable office space for small/medium sized creative and digital industries tenants.

Bauman Lyons have recently been involved in the Design for Future Climate, Adapting Buildings programme ran by TSB.

The research carried out was used on our Church View project, which is a refurbishment of a 1913 office building in Doncaster and is featured in this months RIBA Journal (Oct, p62)

Irena Bauman will give a talk titled ‘the public use of space’. Irena is a founding director of Bauman Lyons architects, a former CABE commissioner and the Chair of the Regional Design Review Services, as well as a member of the Sheffield Sustainable Development and Design Panel.

This time Zygmunt Bauman talks with Fran Graham and Bauman Lyons team about social media and how a firm such as ours should engage with it.

The third of the four planned workshops on Creative City Limits will be chaired by Irena Bauman on Monday 27th of June 2011 at the University of Leeds. 

This  international and interdisciplinary research network offers a forum for reassessing the place of creativity in urban economic growth. Leeds workshop will focus on the way creative industries and cultural practitioners have related to the physical fabric and process of change in cities.

Irena Bauman will be presenting current research case study from the Design for future climates: adapting buildings 2010 competition at the conference due to take place on 21 July 2011 in London.

A one-day practical conference event which will focus on:
•    Policy drivers
•    Assessing overheating
•    What guidance there is available
•    The new UKCP09 data
•    Urban heat islands

Bauman Lyons extended their commitment to persevere with food cultivation with the installation of a green house on Friday 28th of April. Kate Middleton and her fiancé were in attendance.   The green house was purchased with grant support from Co2Sense since it is estimated that, if cultivation succeeds, the office will achieve of 6-10T Co2 reductions per year.

MAUD students from Sheffield and Irena in Copenhagen and Malmo on a study tour for their project: Desirable Neighborhoods - pure inspiration!

Irena has undertaken her inaugural event as the newly appointed Patron of the Urban Design Group with a lovely Patrons lunch hosted by Alan Baxter.

Haworth Childrens Centre was handed over last week, we are all very proud of the finished building which stands as testament to all those who worked tirelessly (especially over the winter months) to bring it to completion.  The external planting will be carried out once the weather gets warmer...

We had a design session at Peter Latz +Partner offices in Munich this week to consider how the use of water and landscape can be applied to building projects to reduce the future problems of overheating as part of the TSB Climate Change Adaptation research project. It was inspirational.

Hebden Bridge Town Hall project is close to being tendered- the existing listed building keeps throwing up surprises! Rain water pipes fund in a fire hose drying tower...

The first phase of Tower Works is on site and underway in Holbeck, Leeds. Restoration and conversion works to No’s 6 & 8 Globe Road continue while the steel frame is erected for a new-build annex. When complete this building will provide office space, start-up workshop units and cultural & community facilities.
