The old technical college, disused since 2006, is to be converted into a new creative industries quarter. The ad hoc modern buildings in the centre of the building are removed to form a new courtyard. Whilst the exterior of the building, being in a conservation area, is restored with new windows that follow the original glazing patterns, the interior of the courtyard is treated in a much more contemporary way in order to increase the sense of light and space and to signal the new function of the building.
